Limited Edition Fine Art Photography
Fred has been actively combining the mediums of photography and fine art since
the early 1970s. As a college art student he began combining images of
photographic origin with conventional fine art serigraphy and lithography
mediums, utilizing synthetic screens and litho stones and metal plates,
respectively. Employing this unique combination, Fred went on to receive his
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art (Printmaking) in 1975 and a Master of Arts
Degree in Art, from San Jose State University in 1976. During his years at San
Jose State, Fred studied under world-renowned serigraphers Ken Auvil and Steve
French and lithographer Geoffrey Bowman. Inspired by their direction, Fred used
photo emulsions on screens, stones and plates to transform images of
photographic origin into painting-like images and also used light-sensitive
silver nitrate direct emulsion coatings on Arches paper
– using full-size film negatives up to 2 x 3 feet in size – creating one-at-a-time contact prints in very limited editions.
Although Fred exhibited at a number of galleries and won competitions throughout
the United States during the
’70s, he chose to augment his fine art pursuits by starting his own advertising
agency in Silicon Valley, California, which continues to this day. During the
past twenty years, while leading all the creative direction for agency client
work, Fred has continued steadfastly to create images derived from locations
across the world including Spain, France, Great Britain, Italy, Mexico, the
Southwest United States, Northern California, Nevada and, specifically over the
past twelve years, the Hawaiian Islands.
Fred’s focus on capturing images of Hawaii is rooted in his first trip to The Islands
in 1959 aboard the Matson Lines White Ship S.S. Matsonia. The magical
environment so unique to Hawaii stuck with him and, in his many trips back, his
consistent goal has been to capture the spirit of this magic in his images.
Today, with digital photography, image processing and output, Fred has been able
to go
“back-to-the-future” and pick-up where he left off with photo serigraphy and lithography, but with
new images and an entirely new way of portraying the images that he sees. He
creates limited editions on fine quality paper and canvas, under the highest
quality standards. Prints in all mediums are available in various sizes and
editions, framed and unframed as well. Licensing of images for various uses is
available.
